Sound and Pressure Sensors

By Lara Grant

The Single Soft Pressure Sensor from Loomia was used in parallel with an Interlinks Electronics FSR for comparison in a project. Because the sensor is listed as not washable, a frame to temporarily capture the sensor for prototyping was experimented with.

I enjoy the flexibility of the through holes and pads. I can easily clip to the pads or solder stable headers to the through holes. Much preferable to the crimp pins on the Interlinks and on most FSRs I’ve worked with.

Because it’s not washable, I experimented making it removable using a fabric frame the sensor can be inserted into and removed from. The flexible border around the sensor makes inserting and taking out easy to do.

The adhesive is strong yet I was able to reposition the sensor a few times after taking the paper backing off which is very useful. The Loomia sensor has stronger adhesive for the wool felt than the Interlinks FSR.
