FAQs

What is electronic textile camp?

Electronic textile camp is an artist-run residency for creative practitioners working at the intersection of craft, computation, textiles, and electronics. For ten days at Prairie Ronde in Vicksburg, MI, participants gather to co-create a community that sparks experimentation and nurtures creative collaboration. Cohorts share skills, engage in discussion, and explore new materials, tools, and techniques during the day, then share meals followed by an occasional karaoke night. We seek nothing less than magic and transformation as we unravel the boundaries between fibers and bits. To learn more about the history, please visit our About page.

I'm not an expert in both electronics and textiles. Can I still apply?

Participants of electronic textile camp aren’t expected to have a particular set of skills or a precise background. Part of what makes camp so exciting is that we all have unique experiences and qualifications. Some people come with a strong textile background like, for example, experience with weaving, knitting, and/or sewing. Other people come with a strong electronics background like, for example, skills in programming or physical computing. A strong applicant will have a baseline of some kind and come to camp with something to share as well as a strong curiosity or interest in developing their practice with new skills, materials, and experiences to be found at camp.

Why did you change your name?

It was time for a transformation! After a few years as eTextile Spring Break, we decided that it no longer reflected what the event had become and where we hope for it to go. We will still keep that spring break energy with us in the fall!

How do I apply?

You apply using this Google form. Our application requires a Google login. If you do not have a Gmail account, please email info@electronictextile.camp for guidance.

When is camp?

Saturday, September 14th, 2024 to Saturnday, September 21st, 2023.

I’m not sure I can make it the whole time. Can I come part way through?

Unfortunately, no. If you are accepted and choose to attend, you must come the entire time.

What is the cost of camp?

$888 is the baseline fee to participate. In order to make participation accessible, we have a sliding scale and financial support.

How do you calculate the cost?

Fantastic question! As organizers of ETC, we want to be transparent about the labor and cost of running this project and invite you to view our budget. We want to make ETC as accessible as possible. We will provide scholarships from a mutual aid fund to as many applicants as we can who express the need for one.

Do you offer financial support?

Yes! We estimate four partial scholarships will be made available from a mutual aid scholarship fund. Please see the application for more details.

I’m an alumni - can I apply again this year?

First of all, we hope to see your beautiful face again very soon! As we seek to expand the eTextile community, this year we decided to accept only new participants. We recognize and acknowledge the importance of community elders bringing in new members and co-creating the culture we hope to nurture through this event. We will be working to set up other opportunities for you to participate and contribute, whether by spreading the word, connecting on Discord, or attending smaller gatherings. Stay tuned to your email for more details!

Will there be an info session?

We held one info session on March 15th. You can find the recording here.
