Inflatable Textiles
Instructors: Kathleen McDermott & Linh Truong
Date: Tuesday, October 4th from 9-12 pm
Hands-on experimentation time with ripstop nylon, iron-on interfacing, and small pump motors for potentially automated wearable inflation. These techniques aren’t foolproof and can require iteration, but it should provide a good starting point for your next inflatable project.
Materials/Tools Provided:
Iron
Iron on adhesive – hem tape
Alligator Clips
Knives, Rulers, Cutting Mats
Bench power supply // 6V battery packs & AA batteries
Wire strippers, scrap hook-up wire
Assorted Ripstop Nylon (kite material, non-porous) enough for small prototypes
Aquarium pump motors (6V, used to aerate fish tanks)
Aquarium air tubing
Hand squeeze pumps
Plastic air valves
Suggested/Optional:
Ripstop Nylon (kite material, nonporous) for larger scale play; enough for student prototypes will be provided. Iron on adhesive hem tape for larger scale play; enough for student prototypes will be provided
